The cuisine of the Middle East is known for its tasty and varied dishes. A very special highlight from Turkish cuisine is sarma, traditionally prepared with rice and meat. But did you know that there is also a delicious vegan version of this dish there? 😮
The combination of crunchy cabbage, aromatic spices and delicious vegetables make vegan sarma a real treat for the palate. And the best part? Although this dish is incredibly enjoyable it is also very healthy and nutritious at the same time. 🥬
To prepare this delicious dish, you will need the following ingredients: ❤️
First you need to prepare the white cabbage. Remove the outer leaves and then cut the cabbage in half. Remove the stalk and blanch the leaves in a pot of hot water until they are soft. 🛠️
While the cabbage is blanching, you can prepare the filling. To do this, cut the onions, peppers and carrots into small cubes. Heat the olive oil in a pan and fry the vegetables in it. Add the cooked rice and spices and mix everything well. 😋
Now you can fill the cabbage leaves. Prepare a cabbage leaf for each sarma and put a portion of the filling on it. Then roll the leaves tightly. Be sure to fold in the edges well so that the filling does not fall out. 🍣
Place the stuffed cabbage leaves in a large pot and add a little water. The water should reach about halfway up the cabbage leaves. Cover the pot and let the cabbage leaves cook on medium heat until they are soft. This will take about 45 minutes. Enjoy your vegan sarma! 🍴
Vegan sarma is an absolute delight and a healthy alternative to traditional meat dishes. With this recipe you can easily prepare the flavors of the Orient at home. Bon appetite! 🎉
